I Made Her a Promise

I made her a promise

It was something that
She wanted, and I wanted
but life didn’t want
us to have that much

I made her a promise
one that I could not keep
not today, nor tomorrow

Only in our dreams

I told myself
what I wanted to hear
what she wanted to hear

and in itself
was a promise

We both could keep…..
